The race

The race was held in 3 parts: in the morning we had to drive through the - practically go-kart - course with standing and flying start with measuring the maximum speed at the end of the home straight. In the afternoon there was held a "Le-Mans" type two-hour long race on a slightly modified course on the basis of the morning results.

The 2 racing cars of Intermotor (with number 1 and number 2 - with about 400kg dead load), which were designed especially for racing, won start-stop victory. The guys with their - during the years matured designed - racing cars dominated the field tightly during the whole race. With these cars they achieve very good results on international races, too. Right after these racing cars our Porsche 924 (together with the driver about 1.2 tons load - designed not for go-kart course) would be the third. Despite of the technical problems due to the quickly finished conversion (the car would be ready 3 days before the race) and the missing of test drives we have succeeded to finish the 2-hour long race and to keep the third place till the end.

The energy was out of the duck before the time has ended, this car only about 1 hour and 40 minutes could stay in the race - due to the missing of in-the-morning-races-used energy. As there are lead-acid-gel batteries built into the duck, it would be needed much more time to fully charge the batteries than to charge LiFePO4 batteries. We had only one hour between morning and afternoon races which was too few to refuel the energy losses. Despite of this we felt very gainful the race. We could gather a lot of experiences, we could decide what to change in the construction, what are the weak points if there is any to make our converted cars even better. The LiFePO4 batteries lived up to expectations: we could drive with one - not fully - charge (charging time was only 3 hours) 110 kms at a stretch to home after the race in dark and wet conditions. It means that the open lamps and the rain were increasing the drag. We had to put the Porsche onto a truck only after 110 kms.

How much time do we have yet? Do I have the course record?

at the end of home straight - the biggest
maximum speed of our Porsche was 54.41km/h -
the highest on the race. As it was a go-kart course
only on a small straight we could speed up.
